Welcome to Nodaway Valley!áá

On behalf of the staff and students at Nodaway Valley, welcome to our website. áWe hope you will check it often as it contains important information and is updated regularly.á

I am excited to begin my sixth year as superintendent at Nodaway Valley.á My journey in education began in 1998 when I earned a B.S. degree from Iowa State in Political Science and Secondary Education.á I began my teaching and coaching career in the Seymour Community School District as a junior high social studies teacher and varsity basketball coach.á In 2002, I received my M.S. degree in educational leadership from Drake University.á My administrative career began in 2002 at Elk Horn-KimballtonáCSD where I served as high school principal.á In 2006, I received my Ed.S. from Drake and began serving as superintendent of schools at Elk Horn-Kimballton CSD.á Recently I received my Ed.D again as a Bulldog!á I have always believed in life-long learning and I have continued to challenge myself in my own learning

The 2014-2015 school year is going to be a great year at Nodaway Valley.ááWe are committed to providing a quality education for the students of our district. áOur focus this year will be using collaborative learning in professional development to improve student achievement. We will focus on four guiding questions for this work,

1) What do we want students to learn?
2) How will we know students have acquired the intended knowledge and skills?
3)áHow will we respond when student experience initial difficulties so we can improve upon current levels of learning?
4) How will we respond when students have already learned what we intend them to learn?

If we can successfully answer these questions and design classroom instruction and educational programs accordingly, we believe student achievement will improve. á

Finally, I want to remind everyone what the mission of the Nodaway Valley School District is to prepare all students for productive, successful lives beyond schooláthrough a balanced curriculum, activities, community experiences,
global awareness, high expectations, and interaction amongástudents, parents, and community. áWe are working hard to make sure this mission plays out each day in every classroom across our school district.

We encourage your participation in the process of making Nodaway Valley a world-class school.á I welcome your ideas related to this endeavor.á I can be contacted at cberlau@nodawayvalley.org or 641-743-6127.á

Sincerely,
Dr.áCaseyáBerlau, Superintendent
